Thai designer reveals dog tiara
A young Thai jewelry designer has crafted a tiara worth $4.2 million for his pet dog, using precious stones given to him by his mother.
Riwin Jirapolsek, who showcased the tiara at a dog show in Bangkok recently, said he wanted to make something special for Kanune, his 15-year-old male Maltese.
He took almost two months to finish the piece, which is made from titanium encrusted with 250-carats of emeralds and diamonds.
Luxury hotels to spoil and pamper pets is becoming a trend
These days there is a huge market for everything pet related. Remember the luxurious Canis Resort and the D Pet Hotels? Pet luxury is at its best with such services. Sometimes I feel that some fortunate pets get better treatment than many humans do. Check out this posh dog hotel, Chateau Poochie if you don't believe me. It's ridiculous the amount of amenities many of these pet hotels try to lure us with. I mean, half of these I'd never get for myself, so why would I pamper my pet so much? Things like dog spas, special dog menus, ultra comfy beds, accessories are extremely common now. It's almost become a status statement to spoil your pet as much as you can. If I'm in the mood to spoil my pet dog, I'll buy him a nice doggy treat from the local super market, thank you very much.
Exquisite Stock Saddle as used by Nicole Kidman in 'Australia'
Remember Baz Luhrmann’s sweeping epic romance Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman set in the times of World War II? You probably remember it for its stunning landscapes and cinematography, but we've decided to mention it for other reasons. We thought its about time we stole the limelight from all the other aspects of the film and gave it to the stock saddle as used by Nicole’s aristocrat Lady Sarah Ashley. It's not a cheap knock-off, it's the real deal in the form of a replica. It's the result of the collaboration between production and costume designer Catherine Martin and R.M.Williams, the famed bush outfitter. They've brought to the market a bunch of clothes inspired from the movie and other such fashion replicas from this period flick. The saddle features the official Australia insignia on the saddle, bridle and breast plate.
$4.2 million diamond studded tiara for a pet dog
Even in the current crunched economic conditions, pet lovers leave no stone unturned to shower their beloved pets with luxury that most of us cannot even dream of. If the most expensive Hello Kitty Doghouse ($32,000) was not glamorous enough for your mutt then take a look at the $4.2 million tiara. Exclusively designed for a 15-year-old male Maltese, Thai jewelry designer Riwin Jirapolsek made use of all the precious stones inherited from his mother. Crafted out of titanium, the tiara is caked with 250-carats of emeralds and diamonds. Exhibited at a dog show in Bangkok recently, this piece of pet jewelry is not up for sale. In fact the designer now intends to create a jeweled hair clip for his beloved canine. He quoted, "I will make a hair clip next time because my dog has to wear clips everyday otherwise its fur will block its view. It may be decorated with jewels." Who ever said that ‘Every dog has his day’ stands true for Riwin Jirapolsek’s Maltese after 15 years.
A rich dog always travels in style. Here, Marco Morosini envisions summer and winter travel with two versions of the Traveling Dog House, both made from baked clayed supported by platinum hardware.
The dimensions of the bag are 54 cm width x 40 cm height x 28 cm depth. And, the pet carrier comes for a price tag of 670 euros (approx. $845).
Finally, luxurious treats for both people and their pets
Barney’s Bling is matching jewelry for people and their pets using genuine diamonds and precious metals, created by southern California resident, Bridget Livingston.
The concept was born in 2007, when Bridget met her baby Barney, a Yorkie, while on vacation in Chicago. She spoiled her new best friend with cashmere sweaters and organic treats, but noticed that his jewelry kept falling apart.
She saw an opportunity as she searched Los Angeles’ finest pet stores unable to find some real quality “bling” for Barney…so she took it upon herself to create her own. Bridget also decided to add in some matching bling for herself as an extra treat.
The signature design is based on the concept that each pet makes a paw print on their owner’s heart. The entire collection is about connecting the hearts of people and their pets in an elegant and sophisticated manner. Barney’s Bling even offers “Daddy jewelry,” which has a more masculine feel…the necklace comes on a leather rope instead of a 16” chain.
Matching t-shirts for pets and owners as well as bling collars, leashes, and even custom designs for the discerning customer are all available, with prices ranging from $40 to $4,850.
Bridget and Barney believe in karma and charitable causes, so 10% of proceeds are donated to Perfect Pet Rescue and Autism Speaks, to benefit both people and pets
It’s a dog’s life at luxury hotel for pampered pooches
A luxury £2.5 million Pet Hotel,
called Elmtree, has opened its doors as London’s first luxury boarding kennels and cattery and is offering pampered pooches and frisky felines somewhere to stay when their owners go away.
The Enfield establishment was designed by property developer and pet fanatic Ray Fawehimi on the edge of green belt land in the London borough. Mr Fawehimi, who owns both a cat and dog himself, said he has a vision of opening a guest house for pets so he demolished his house which stood on the site and built the animal
hotel.
From its glamorous reception, adorned by a wall lined with dog biscuits of varying sizes and tastes to greet all guests, to its indoor canine gymnasium with toys to stimulate the guests, under-floor heating, well-designed individual guest ‘rooms’ and acres of outside space including a small lake, this is pet heaven
He added that he has hired a “great pedigree” of staff and is now ready for business. “Our manager, Diana Skoyles, previously worked with Sparsholt College, teaching animal care, and previously worked for the Blue Cross. We have six staff members in total and there is always someone on duty and awake throughout the night,” he explained.
The services offered include all the usual boarding amenities like individual kennels, accommodation of any special diet requirements, and daily walks, plus they also have luxury pet bedding options (if you don’t want to bring your own), exercise and play rooms, and even in- kennel web cams so you can keep constant tabs on your pet while you’re away.
The Hotel has 29 cat “rooms” and 55 dog “rooms” - but pairs of dogs or cats who normally live together will room together to avoid upsetting them. There is an isolation ward for any animals who fall sick and an on-call vet in case of need. The luxurious bathroom has hydraulically operated baths and pedicures are available, so that dogs can enjoy full grooming parlour services on the premises.
Even the underfloor heating has been well-planned: for cats there is a choice of sleeping position as the designers recognised that some cats prefer to be on an elevated level (with a cat flap from the mezzanine sleeping area) whilst others would prefer to be at ground level, to enjoy the underfloor heating. The lower bedding area, too, has a cat-flap also leading to the cool, anti-glare glassed sun-room.
