Van Cleef & Arpels Les Jardins
High jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels prides itself on its reputation for creativity and, with the quantiemes de saisons Les Jardins watches at SIHH 2009, continues to deliver feminine and intimate interpretations of time.
The Renaissance at Rome-based Bulgari Group continues with their mechanical watches for men, as previously reported. Broadly a part of the Diagono collection, the Professional Aria GMT differentiates itself from the classic Diagono GMT via the bezel.
The Professional series does not feature the famous Bulgari-Bulgari logo and is styled in a more tool-like fashion. In keeping with this philosophy, the watch is styled like a chronograph but is instead a triple time zone affair.
Aside from the main local time, a second hand (with the red arrowhead), a rehaut with day/night indicator and bi-directional bezel combine to provide readings of time in up to three different time zones.
It is, in fact, the exact same Dubois-Depraz movement that has been used in past years and also powers the classic Diagono GMT. The other difference for this year is the relief of the planisphere on the dial.
Porsche Design Chronograph Indicator
Luxury brand Porsche Design proved their watchmaking cleverness with their longstanding working arrangement with Eterna. This collaboration resulted in the landmark Chronograph Indicator, the world’s first chronograph incorporating a jumping mechanism.
The Eterna-created Porsche Design Indicator P’6910 continues this year in a rose gold and titanium case, with PVD treatment. As can be seen from the visual, the chronograph records up to nine hours and 59 minutes and displays it in two windows.
The image of the movement reveals some of the secrets, including the three-disc system used for the chronograph and the unusual architecture of the integrated movement.
Secrets
of the Piaget Secret Watch
Swiss fine watchmaking maison Piaget is illustrating its know-how in both haute horlogerie and haute joaillerie with its Secret Watch. A specialty of the house, this is a timepiece that unobtrusively doubles as a watch and a bracelet.
Its elegance and ingenuity – not to mention the dazzling array of diamonds – hides a tremendous amount of craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. The final product only hints at this, as the job of the craftspeople is to make it seem effortlessly breathtaking.
In just one example, a jeweler has to painstakingly and progressively fashion a piece of precious metal into the desired shape, based on an asphalt die or mould. For a glimpse of Piaget’s other wonders, check out their entire SIHH collection.
Baume & Mercier's Ilea Launch
Swiss luxury watchmaker Baume & Mercier brought its Ilea collection of ladies’ watches to Singapore and paired it with the “The Leading Ladies of the Silver Screen,” exhibition by Magnum Photos. The watches are built on a principle of curves and sensuality, with glamor supplied by a choice of diamond settings on the bezel and the hour markers.
Jaeger-LeCoultre and Alicia Keys
Watchmaking manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre put in an appearance on the wrist of singer/songwriter Alicia Keys in the video for her song ‘Superwoman.’ The watch’s two faces match the conception of the many roles a modern woman plays in life, as reflected in Keys’ song.
The Reverso Squadra Lady is the feminine counterpart to Reverso Squadra and was launched at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie this year. The Duetto in particular is good partner for Keys in her video. For the full range of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new watches at SIHH this year, please click here.
